Research overview:
(1) With construction of a real-time control system in gas carburization as a goal, a carburization model permitting strict representation of the composition of the atmospheric gas and the carbon transfer under variation of the steel temperature is devised. After verification of the precision of the model, control software is created. Means of applying the model to any type of steel are also presented. (2) For vacuum carburization that is now revaluated rapidly as a method little polluting the atmosphere, a carburization model and software are created, and treatment to improve the controlling performance is examined.
