Research overview:
In channel crossing road projects under planning at various places in the country, extra huge bridges larger than the Big Bridge across Akashi Strait may be required. Risen for realizing an extra huge bridge is to secure stability against wind as one of the most important subjects. Further, consideration of economical efficiency is also necessary because it is a large-scale fabric. On such a background, study in our Structure Laboratory has advanced by taking notice on a box-girder cross section with an opening. In the fiscal 1999, we conducted grasp of wind response characteristic of extra-huge bridges in turbulent flows, survey of influence of a wind-screening wall on stability against wind, and examination of new girder shapes and structural types.
