Surface modification of fibroin fiber by radical source

Research overview:
Treatment of silk fibroin fiber with micro-wave and high-frequency plasma in various gases gave the following results: 1. Dyeing with reactive dyestuff of silk cloth treated with down-blow plasma in microwave did not show any improvement in dyeing property. 2. Dyeing with reactive dyestuff of silk cloth treated with high frequency plasma showed a trend to increased "total K/S", an indicator of dyeing density. The same effect was observed in the case of plasma treatment after dyeing, indicating that fiber surface was made rough. 3. Silk cloth treated with high frequency plasma in the hydrocarbon-series gases showed a surface effect having a touch of chambray with yellow-brown stuff. 4. Silk cloth treated with high frequency plasma in fluoric gases showed water-repelling property, but it was found insufficient for water-resistance of a fiber product.
