Study on dynamics of plasmasphere and plasmapause in reference to observation results of FWS mounted on AKEBONO satellite (EOS-D)

Wide-band hybrid waves are always observed in the dynamics spectrum of the outer-space plasma wave by the PWS observation equipment mounted on the AKEBONO satellite (EXOS-D). Plasma density can be found accurately from that wide-band hybrid frequencies. One of the findings from this study is that the observed plasma density distribution repeats sudden variation over a few hours, and this phenomenon is caused by magnetic field variation in the plasmasphere and plasmapause generated by the variation of the loop current surrounding the earth. This signifies that, when variation larger than 5 nT/h is developed, plasma discharges away outside with temporal attenuation of the magnetic field, then the outside high-temperature plasma intrudes with temporal amplification of the magnetic field. This results from drift due to the inductive electric field generated by the temporal variation of the magnetic field. In this study, this drift is called "betatron drift."
