Research overview:
When the decomposition of bisphenol A was examined in river water, biodegrading of bisphenol A was observed in 27 of 29 specimens indicating that bisphenol-degrading bacteria are widely distributed in river water. Also bisphenol A degrading bacteria were isolated from Tone River and Momonoki River. The decomposition process was stopped at triol which is a primary step of the decomposition in the bacterial strains isolated from Tone River. Final decomposition was observed in the bacterial strains from Momonoki River. These suggest that bisphenol A-degrading bacteria exist in considerable numbers in river water.
