Study on making of prototype simplified measuring instrument for measurement of acoustic characteristics of materials and measuring technique

Research overview:
Utilizing installations and equipment available in our laboratory, we aims at developing an instrument and a technique for simple measurement of acoustic characteristics of materials in a stage of development or trial making. A small sound-blocking box being small and light and allowing easy installation and carrying in an anechoic room is developed and made experimentally as a simplified instrument. The instrument can collect data permitting calculation of the acoustic transmission loss and the random-incidence sound absorption rate by putting a sample to be tested at one end of the box and measuring the sound discharged from the sound-source speaker arranged within the box. The data collected are compared with those measured according to standards to derive an equation representing the correlation and a correction equation for prediction and calculation of the transmission loss and absorption rate.
