Research on assessment of variation of carbon balance in urban greenlands due to human activity

Research overview:
In 1999, in order to assess CO2-reducing effect by greening, calculation method of CO2 fixation level by greening trees was investigated. The igneous of trees contains carbon by about 50% of dry weight of a tree. This carbon is derived from CO2 in the air. Thus, CO2 fixation level is available by calculating growth level of the igneous. The trunks of representative greening trees were analyzed, the growth process of the height and trunk diameter corresponding to tree age was clarified, and growth prediction formula was established. Based on this formula, the CO2 level fixed for one year by a tree with a certain age or size can be calculated, so that grasping the number and sizes of greening trees will enable assessment of CO2-reducing effect of greening services.
