Research overview:
The more industrial techniques advance, the more various materials are used at factories and in daily life and actualized in rivers. Although the chemical materials which need to be monitored are increasing, there is a limit to how much can be monitored by physical and chemical analysis. Moreover, some chemical materials transform organic matters and exert influence on the life of rivers even if they are in extremely small quantities below environmental capacity. In Kumamoto Prefecture, benthic macroinvertebrates are investigated at 35 fiducial points in the rivers every year and the results are accumulated. The sereening method by analyzing the variations in compositions of benthic macroinvertebrate communities is researched.
