of the Center along with the hospital and the administrative
office, to fight against cancer, which was a growing cause of
death among Saitama residents.
In 2001, the Research Institute became the Research Division
which belonged to the Hospital with reorganization of the Center.
The initial research works conducted by the center focused on
the basic medicine, but more practice-oriented approach has
recently been taken.
The center is financially supported by Ministry of Education,
Science, Sports and Culture, and Ministry of Health and
Welfare, and many other foundations besides the apportionment
of the prefectural budget.
The Institute conducts joint research activities with
organizations in the United States, South Korea and China.
