Purpose of establishment:
The Institute was established to make surveillance study
necessary for environmental and public health administration.

Investigation and Research
To cope with new problems, appropriate testing and
analytical methods are developed and the finding and
understanding of facts, investigation of causes, and
influence analysis are all conducted at this
Research Laboratory.
Test and Inspection
Identification and classification of pathogenic
microorganisms, standized inspection of food,
medicine, etc., and constituent analysis of
hot-spring water, etc. are conducted.
Environmental Monitoring
Monitoring of air pollution and water pollution
with toxic substances.
Analysis and Supply of Information
Information on infectious disease and on the
environment is collected and analyzed for supply
to the organizations concerned.
Training and Guidance
In addition to the training and guidance for the
staff of public health centers and cities, towns,
and villages, the training and guidance are
provided for engineers from developing countries
in a part of international cooperation.
