The Forestry Institute, the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, was established.
Forestry Institutes were integrated into the National Forestry Institue to promote tests and research on forestry and forest industries.
The Institute moved from Meguro, Tokyo, to the present place and buildings and facilities were completely renewed.
The research promotion organization was reformed and the name was changed to the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute. The institute has now the main office in Tsukuba Gakuenn Toshi and five branches across the country and the Tama Forest Sicence Land to carry out research on forest, forestry, and forest industries and publisize results.
Estublished as an independent administrative institution, as a part of administrative reform.

- Produce and distribute specimen for the examination and research of forest and forestry.
- Produce and distribute excelent seeds and seedlings of trees.
