other specific diseases
Business overview:
The Institute of Medical Science,
University of Tokyo (IMSUT) is conducting updated
researches on basic medical science together
with the development of new treatment procedures
with a catch phrase "From bench to bedside".
Researches are conducted basically of two types,
the one: the individual researches based
on the creative activities of scientists
belonging to three departments (Infection-Immunology,
Cancer and Basic Biological Science),
and the other: highly organized goal-oriented
researches conducted by three centers,
Human Genome Center, Human Disease Model Center
and Medical Center. In addition,
IMSUT has central facilities and a hospital.
Researches belonging to three divisions are mostly
engaged in the elucidation of basic principles
of biological phenomena related to human diseases,
and those in three centers are working on their
own missions including human genome projects,
development of animal models for human diseases
and investment of new evidence-based therapeutic
procedures. Hospital is working mostly for cell
