    Education Ministry budgeted 100 million yen for establishment of the National Museum of Modern Art, and the preparatory committee for establishment of National Museum of Modern Art was set.

    The preparatory committee for establishment of the National Museum of Modern Art submitted a report about the opening of the main building to Minister of Education.

    The land and building of the main office of Nikkatsu was bought, and the reconstruction work was decided to be conducted after an architect, Kunio Maekawa's design.

Purpose of establishment:
The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo was established
as National Museum in Japan which includes modern art,
photographs, crafts, designs, and works of movie in 20th
century, for making everyone enjoy works and for
developing related research and study.

Collecting modern artworks, films, and related references
mainly of the 20th century and preserving those works in
suitable environments.
Conducting continuous surveys and research on works in the
Museum Collection and other art-related activities in and
outside Japan.
Organizing permanent and special exhibitions of the artworks,
