Purpose of establishment:
Earth Observation Research Center (EORC) was established
in April 1995, to promote an effective and wide use
satellite data for earth environmental science. Since the
establishment, in terms of the data from JERS, ADEOS and
TRMM, we made our best effort on analyses of earth
observation data in close collaboration with domestic
and foreign experts in earth environmental science. And
also ADEOS-2 launched in December 2002.
In the future, strengthening collaborations with domestic
and foreign research institutes, we will aggressively
promote data provision to researchers, and supports for
researches and international activities of researchers.
We will extend our own researches on technologies of data
analysis and utilization, sensor technology and earth
environmental science, to input the scientific needs to
the instrument development properly. Further we will make
our efforts to explore new areas of application such as
operational meteorology and oceanography, geographic
information, map production, land use, resource
exploration, monitoring of terrestrial surface changes
and monitoring of natural disasters.
Business overview:
EORC is a new field center which unites experts of Earth
science and remote sensing application to space agencies.
EORC's main tasks are as follows,
-Earth Observation Instrumentations and Data Systems
To conduct research and development of new Earth
observation instrumentation, and development and
operarion of the ground system of Earth observation
satellite data.
-Earth Observation Satellite Data Analysis
To conduct algorithm development on data process and
analysis, calibration and validation of satellite data,
and so on.
-Earth Science Research
To promote Earth science research on global environment
problem by using satellite data.
-Generating and Disseminating Datasets
To generate datasets for contributing to Earth science
research and application fields and disseminates
datasets to users.
-Organizing Seminars and Workshops
To organize seminars and workshops for researchers and
-Information Center on Earth Observation
To play a role as an EO satellite information center.
-Earth Observation Satellite data usage promotion.
