Business overview:
Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (IMCB)
was founded in 1993 after reorganization of the former
Institute of Applied Microbiology whose main research
topics were in the field of microbiology. In the
current institute, basic research on biosciences has
been performed with a broader range of research topics
which are not limited to microorganisms but extended
to animal and plant cell systems. As an institute
affiliated with the University of Tokyo, about 150
students are accepted from eight different departments
in five graduate schools including Agriculture, Science,
Pharmacology, Medicine and Engineering, which gives a
heterogeneous, stimulating and interactive atmosphere
to our activities. Our current research activities are
mostly directed toward cell biological reseraches at
the molecular and cellular level.
The activities of IMCB were peer reviewed last year
by the external advisory, panel, and much of precious
advice and useful comments were made on the current
status of IMCB and our future development plans.
With these in mind, all the members of IMCB will try
our best to make it a world leading institute of
biological sciences.
