Purpose of establishment：
Tokyo Vocational School was founded.
Tokyo Vocational School was renamed Tokyo Technical School.
Tokyo Technical School was renamed Tokyo Higher Technical School.
Tokyo Technical School was promoted to Tokyo Institute of Technology.
The enactment of the National School Establishment Law promoted the reorganization of Tokyo Institute of Technology so as to comply with the nation's education system reform, extending its three-year courses into four years and establishing the School of Engineering within the university.
Under the goal to train capable members of the community of good will who will be able to play a key role as industrial engineers, industrial managers, researchers of physics or engineering and educators in the future, this University aims at contributing to the development of culture and human welfare by providing general education and specialized knowledge necessary to achieve that goal, making researches
of and going deep into theories and their applications about physics or engineering, and improving the level of science and technology.
Tokyo Institute of Technology consists of 3 Schools, School of Science, School of Engineering, and School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, 6 Graduate Schools, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology, and Graduate School of Innovation Manegement.
