Purpose of establishment：
Rudolf B. Teusler, first President, established Advanced Nursing School attached to St. Luke's International Hospital in cooperation with Alice St. John.
School became St. Luke's Women's Professional School. School was authorized as the only advanced educational institution (4 years of regular course and research course) of nursing schools.
St. Luke's International Hospital was taken over by US General Headquarters, and it was named Tokyo Model School of Nursing Education, which conducted a joint education with Japan Red Cross Women's Professional School.
School Buildings were returned. School became St. Luke's Junior College (3-year Course).
School was renamed St. Luke's College of Nursing and started the private 4-year education of faculty of nursing for the first time in Japan.
The parent organization of St. Luke's College of Nursing is
the Advanced Nursing School attached to St. Luke's
International Hospital founded by Rudolf B. Teuler,
the missionary doctor of Christianity, in 1920 in cooperation
with Alice St. John. Dr. Teuler aimed at not only job
training but also nurturing of nurses who are sociable and
who understand the human and society, and furthermore,
embodying the spirit of Christ in the activities.
Nursing is the act for preservation and promotion of human
health, prevention of diseases, and support for recovery
from diseases, and is being established as a learning system
College has a history and tradition of 80 years from the
foundation. College has conducted unprecedented advanced
nursing education, increased levels of nursing, and
developed many leading persons in all the public health and
medical fields as a nursing organization, based on the spirit
of human love.
College aims at higher levels of nursing education with the
establishment of Master's Program, Graduate School of Nursing
in 1980 and Doctoral Program in 1988.
