Purpose of establishment：
Ibaraki University was founded as a new national university.It was originally comprised of the Faculty of Literature and Science,the Faculty of Education,and the Faculty of Engineering. This was based upon the National University Founding Law (the 1949 Law No.150),which combined the old Mito High School,Ibaraki Prefectural Teachers College,Ibaraki Teachers College for Youth,and Taga Technical College.The following is a brief history:
Merged with Ibaraki prefectural Agricultural University.The Department of Agriculture was established.
Izura Institute of Arts and Culture was established. ※ (※indicates facilities established by internal decisions.)
The Junior College of Technology was established.
The Faculty of Literature and Science was reorganized into the college of Humanities,the college of Science,and the College of Arts and Sciences.
As a center for academic life in northern Kanto,Ibaraki
University seeks an effective integration of generalization
and specialization in education and research. The University
contributes to the continuing development of society through
the cultivation of human resources and academic research
based on an innovative viewpoint and a global perspective.
Ibaraki University provides a diverse environment affording
learning opportunities that prepare students for successful
careers amid the challenges of the 21st Century.The University
offers a variety of courses both in general education and
specialized studies,including interdisciplinary areas,
in order to meet the demands of ongoing changes due to
globalization and advances in information technologies.
Ibaraki University continues to pursue research that increases
human knowledge and intellectual resources and disseminates
the results worldwide. The University trains learned professionals
in specialized fields of Engineering, Humanities, Education,
Science, and Agriculture.
Recognizing the historical, cultural, and industrial characteristics
of the area, Ibaraki University contributes to the local community
