Purpose of establishment：
Tokushima Prefectural Institute of Public Health and Environmental Science was established with the merger of Tokushima Prefectural Institute of Hygiene and Environmental Pollution Center of Tokushima Prefecture.
Water Pollution Department was divided into First Water Pollution Department and Second Water Pollution Department in response to the extension and specialization of water quality control activity.
Air Pollution Department was divided into First Air Pollution Department and Second Air Pollution Department in response to the extension of air pollution control activity.
Telemeter Section was reorganized into Monitoring and Information Department.
Radioactivity Laboratory was completed.
According to the provisions of Article 17 of Tokushima
Prefecture Administrative Organizations Rules, the
Institute was established as an organization aiming at
conducting necessary studies and tests for the improvement
of public health and prevention of environmental pollution.
The Institute conducts necessary studies and tests for the
improvement of public health and the environmental
conservation of all area of the Prefecture. For the public
health, the Institute carries out studies relating to human
health such as food poisoning test, AIDS test, surveillance
of infections, congenital metabolism anomaly test,
physico-chemical tests of foods, hygiene test of tap
water, and test of wastes. The Institute also conducts
monitoring of sources of the pollution of air and water,
measurements of toxic substances in the air, water quality
control of rivers and the sea, and test of mud of river and
sea bottoms to protect the health and environment of the
