  • 1949/05
    Iwate University was established to include three Faculties, Agriculture, Engineering and Liberal Arts and Science, as a university under the new system, according to National University Establishment Law (Law No.150, 1959.5.31.). Its parent schools were Morioka Agriculture and Forestry Vocational School (established on 1902.3.27), Morioka Industrial Vocational School (established on 1939.5.22), Iwate Teacher Training School (established on 1943.4.1) and Iwate Youth Teacher Training School (established on 1945.4.1).

    Due to amendment of National University Establishment Law (on 1953.7.28, Law No.88), Veterinary Hospital was set up in Faculty of Agriculture.

    Agriculture Advanced Course was established.
  • 1958/04
    Engineering Advanced Course was established.
  • 1960/04
    Liberal Arts and Science Advanced Course was established.

Purpose of establishment:
In accordance with the spirit of Basic Law of Education,
objectives of Iwate University are to seek knoledges widely,
to study arts and sciences deeply, and to contribute to
progress of culture, as the center of scholaship.
Development of talented persons who have intellectual,
moral and applicational capability is also our target.
(Iwate University Rule, Article 1)
Business overview:
The University was established on 1949.5.31. due to
promulgation of National University Establishment Law
(1949, Law No.150), as a university under the new system,
to be composed of three Faculties, Liberal Arts and Science,
Engineering and Agriculture, its parent organizations being
Iwate Teacher Training School, Iwate Youth Teacher Training
School, Morioka Industrial Vocational School and Morioka
Agriculture and Forestry Vocational School.
Since then, development took place, and at present,
the University is composed of four Faculties, namely,
Cultural and Sicial Sciences, Education, Engineering and
Agriculture.
It also offers Master Programs in Cultural and Social
Sciences, Education Engineering and Agriculture,
as well as Doctor Programs in Engineering Agriculture
and Veteraniary Medicine. Special Education Special
Advanced Course is set up. In order to support to
bring up successors of farming, Agriculture Non-degree
Courses (Agriculture, and Dairy Farming) are offered.
As attached institutions, Faculty of Education has
Education Practice Research Instruction Center, Primary
School, Junior High School, School for Handicapped
Children and Kindergarten. Attached to Faculty of
Agriculture are Farm, Practice Forest, Veteraniary
Hospital, Cold Zone Biosystem Research Center,
Botanical Garden, Agricultural Education Library,
Natural Energy Utilizing Green Houses and Tree-planting
Center.
Four Faculties, Office, Student Division, Health Center
and Library are located in Ueda Area,Morioka City.
Primary School, Junior High School and Kindergarten
are located in Kagano Area, Morioka City. School for
HandicappedChildren is located in Higashi Aniwa Area
in the city.Among the attached farm and forest, Takizawa
Farm and Takizawa Forest are located in Iwate District,
Takizawa Village, and Gomyojin Ranch and Gomyojin Forest
are located in Iwate District, Shizukuishi Town. In
addition to these, Sea-sede Training Fascilities
(Tentative name) is planned to be constructed in Miyako
City.
As of 1999.10.1., number of staff is 838, number of
students is 6,366, total area is approximately 14,720,000
square meters.
