  • 1995/04
    Department of Resource Utilization of Material Research Institute (former Fukuoka Industrial Experiment Station) and Food Department of Chemical & Textile Industry Research Institute (former Fukuoka Industrial Experiment Station) were united to establish the Institute.
Purpose of establishment:
The institute conducts researches on biotechnology,
food, and functional material to give technical
support to the industries in Fukuoka Prefecture
Business overview:
The Biotechnology and Food Research Institute (BFRI)
is a newly established core institusion involved in
the Kurume-Tosu Technopolis Project. The goal of
research in the BFRI is the creation of the leading
biotechnology/food industries based on the
environmentally compatible modern technologies
toward the 21st century. The overall aim of the BFRI
is also to facilitate and promote the development
of small-to medium-sized local enterprises
associated with food and biotechnology industries
through research and technical support.
