【請求項1】 シリコンアルコキシド、あるいはシリコンアルコキシドおよびシリカ微粒子を主原料とするゾルーゲル法により製造されるシリカガラスであって、 前記シリカガラスが、炭素を340〜600ppm含有し、OH基を含有し、且つ2次の非線形光学定数が4.5pm/V以上となるようにポーリング処理してなることを特徴とするSHG素子用シリカガラス。
