Genetic resources of microorganisms

Useful cultures of the microorganism (bacterium,
actinomycete, filamentous bacterium, yeast,
microalgae) are being preserved. In the end of
1999, registered cultures were 1,357 of bacterium
and actinomycete, 1,289 of filamentous fungi, 415
of yeasts, 421 of microalgae (including
cyanobacterium) and the total was 3,482. All of
them are available.
Distribution unit is one of each: as dried
L-ampoules of bacterium, actinomycete and yeasts;
as dried L-ampoules or slants of filamentous fungi;
as slants or culture fluid of actinomycete.
The above resources are placed on the catalogue
(IAM Catalog of Strains, 1998, second version)
published by this institute and is available from
the Business Center for Academic Societies of Japan.
Information of cultures such as origins or
taxonomic positions have not available yet on
networks but the culture database is available
in this institute.
