This is a collection of newspapers in Meiji-Taisho
Era donated by courtesy of Mr. Shigetomo Kawai, the
head of Kawai family in Kakegawa to the Library in
1957. In the period of Civic Rights and Freedom,
Shizuoka Shinbun and Shizuoka Daimu Shinbun were
fragmentally collected. In addition, Choya Shinbun
was also collected comparatively well. Shizuoka
Shinpo in late Meiji Era and Shizuoka Minyu Shinbun
in late Meiji Era to late Taisho Era are the
highlight of the collection. Moreover, Shizuoka
versions of Hochi Shinbun, Tokyo Asahi Shinbun,
Yorozu Choho, and Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shinbun in the
same era are also included. These newspapers are
indispensable materials for the area study. There are
microfilm versions of Shizuoka Minyu Shinbun and
Shizuoka Shinpo made for conservation and reading.
