The main contents of this collection are the

collection of books and letters of Mr. B. T.
Chemberlain (1850-1935) and Mr. Sugiura Toshiro
(1883-1968), who was born in Okazaki-Shi.
Mr. Chemberlain was the professor of Former Tokyo
Imperial University and devoted his life to the
study of Japanese Culture, such as the translation
of Kojiki and Japanese linguistics. He was also
famous as the teacher of Mr. Koizumi Yakumo.
Mr. T. Sugiura studied under Mr. Chemberlain and
visited America, Britain, Asia, Swiss and etc.
with him and had got his favor. Mr. Sugiura received
a part of his collection (Japanese books and
English books) as a memory to him. In 1961 and in
1990 catalogue of this collection was issued.
