Research overview：
古くから無菌状態であると考えられてきた深度地下極限環境(無酸素、熱水、油田、岩盤など)を対象として、地下サンプルの採取と各種微生物の分離を行います。さらにその生態系を明らかにするとともに、個々の微生物の環境適応戦略や代謝経路を解明することにより、生命進化過程の理解、環境改善および遺伝子資源の確保をめざします。得られた微生物からは、産業上有用な微生物、酵素の発見が期待されます。
