治療困難な癌の一つである胆管癌の治癒切除術時の5年生存率は30~50%、唯一有効な抗癌剤ゲムシタビンの延命効果は7ヶ月である事から、生体に副作用をきたさない、新しい抗癌治療技術の基盤の確立が求められている。
