未分化細胞塊にアクチビンなどを加えることにより、血球、脊索、腎臓、心臓などの器官形成が可能となるという知見をもとに、これらの器官形成に関与する遺伝子のク口一二ングと解析を行って、現在まで誰も成功していないin vitro系での単独の臓器としての腸管、肝臓、牌臓、中枢神経をinvitro系でつくり出します。治療に必要な諸器官を形成する「器官発生工学」の礎をめざします。
