極微細構造を持つ系において、電子と光子の両方がその量子性を顕著に示すような現象を探索し、かつ、そのような現象が起こる極微細構造を明確な意図を持って設計し、人工的に創生することをめざします。将来的には、量子効果を応用した新しいデバイスなどの開発が期待されます。
