【請求項1】 地盤を掘削するアースオーガーと、円筒状に形成され、内周側に前記アースオーガーが配置されるとともに前記アースオーガーの回転を支持するケーシングと、前記ケーシングに取り付けられ、前記ケーシングが内挿される中空部を形成するとともに前記アースオーガーの半径方向に拡縮する複数の拡縮ユニットと、前記複数の拡縮ユニットの拡縮動作を個別に制御し、当該複数の拡縮ユニットによる蠕動運動を模した推進動作を制御する制御手段と、を備えた掘削推進装置であって、前記複数の拡縮ユニットは、流体の給排により径方向に膨張し、排出により収縮する膨縮体を備え、前記膨縮体の膨張時における最大径となる外周表面に設けられ、当該外周表面よりも半径方向外側に突出する突起と、を備えたことを特徴とする掘削推進装置。
