次世代シーケンサーの普及によって環境微生物学の世界は大きな変革を迎えていますが、我々は日々蓄積する膨大なゲノム情報を真に解読できているのでしょうか。本研究では、終止コドンUGAにコードされる21番目のアミノ酸・セレノシステインを含むため、遺伝子予測が困難であったセレンタンパク質の革新的予測法を開発し、環境微生物のゲノム情報に巧妙に隠された機能性遺伝子の発見と翻訳機構の多様性の解明を目指します。
