J-GLOBAL Privacy Policy

The Privacy Policy applies to users residing or located in Japan.

 

1. Basic Policy

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (hereinafter referred to as “JST”) operates the Science and Technology Link Center (hereinafter referred to as “J-GLOBAL”). In operating J-GLOBAL, JST may collect information such as the users’ name, email addresses, and access logs (note: access logs do not contain personally identifiable information) as necessary.
JST will handle personal information and personal data in connection with J-GLOBAL appropriately within the scope of the purposes described below, in accordance with this Privacy Policy (hereinafter referred to as “Policy”). Unless otherwise defined herein, the terms used in this Policy shall follow the definitions in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (hereinafter referred to as “APPI”) and the J-GLOBAL Terms of Use.

2. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

JST operates J-GLOBAL in compliance with the APPI, JST’s Personal Information Protection Rules, J-GLOBAL’s Policy, and any other relevant laws, regulations, or guidelines.

3. Scope of Application

The Policy applies to personal information collected or provided by users in relation to J-GLOBAL.
If specific provisions regarding personal information are separately defined for certain aspects of J-GLOBAL, those provisions shall take precedence.

4. Collection and Use of Personal Information

JST collects and uses users’ personal information and related data by lawful and appropriate means within the scope of the purposes listed below. Unless otherwise permitted by law or with the user’s consent, JST will not use the information for any other purpose.

  Information Collected Purpose of Use
(1) Automatically collected access information such as domain name, IP address, browser type, access date/time, and pages viewed via cookies. The information does not contain personal identifiers. To analyze usage trends for improving J-GLOBAL, monitor misuse or excessive access, and support recovery from system failures. May also be used for JST’s other services and research purposes. Aggregated data may be shared with contractors or published.
(2) Cookies (The information does not contain personal identifiers) Used to analyze usage and deliver content effectively by identifying the user’s device.
(3) Email address and usage data (alerts, clips, browsing history, etc.) for My J-GLOBAL users Used for login, sending alerts, receiving announcements from JST (if user gives consent), and communications related to Web API service applications.
(4) For users cooperating in service improvement surveys or requesting medical literature abstracts: name, contact info, affiliation, and job title Used for surveys and communications regarding service improvement or registration confirmation for medical abstract access.

5. Restrictions on Third-Party Provision

JST will not provide collected personal information to third parties (excluding contractors) without prior consent, except in the following cases:
• Required by law
• It is necessary to protect the life, body, or property of an individual (including corporations) and obtaining consent from the user is difficult
• It is necessary for public health or child welfare and obtaining consent from the user is difficult</
• When government agencies request cooperation and require the information to fulfil their legal duties, and obtaining the user’s consent would impede those duties. Aggregated, non-identifiable data may be published.

6. Access Logs and Analytics Tools

Access logs and analytics tools are used in accordance with Article 6 of the J-GLOBAL Terms of Use.

7. Security Measures

JST implements the following measures to ensure the security of personal data:
• Staff training and designation of responsible personnel
• Prevention of unauthorized access and data leaks, loss, or damage
• Contracts with contractors include confidentiality clauses and oversight measures to prevent negligence, misuse, or unauthorized disclosure of personal data.

8. Policy Revisions

The Policy may be revised as necessary. Changes will be announced on the J-GLOBAL website and will take effect from the date specified by JST.

9. Requests for Disclosure, Correction, or Deletion

Upon request and after verifying their identity, JST will promptly respond to the user’s requests for disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, or suspension of use of their personal data retained by JST. JST may refuse disclosure if:
• It may harm the user or third parties
• It may significantly hinder JST’s operations
