【課題】本発明は、木材等の植物由来のタールを原料に用い、高い電気伝導性性能を有する炭素繊維及びその製造方法を提供することを目的とする。【解決手段】本発明の炭素繊維は、木タールを原料とし、線源にCuKαを用いた粉末X線回折パターンにおいて、2θ=26°付近と2θ=44°付近に回折線を有することを特徴とする。また、本発明の炭素繊維の製造方法は、上記の炭素繊維の製造方法であって、精製された木タールを減圧雰囲気下で加熱して木タールピッチを得るピッチ化工程と、得られたピッチを溶融紡糸によってピッチ繊維とする繊維化工程と、得られたピッチ繊維を熱処理して炭素繊維に変える熱処理工程とを有することを特徴とする。【選択図】図1
