一方の電極にバイアス電圧を印加し、この電極の近傍の空間に存在するイオンであって印加した電圧の極性と逆極性のイオンを前記一方の電極に引き付け、これに起因して前記一方の電極と他方の電極との間に流れる電流を電流検出手段で検出することにより前記イオンの有無を検出するイオン検出装置において、前記一方の電極は棒状電極で構成されていて、前記他方の電極はアースであり、この棒状電極は間に空間を有して筒状の保護カバーによって包囲されていることを特徴とするイオン検出装置。
