ONの時にのみ制御を可能とするメインスイッチ、及び先行車両との車間距離を検出するセンサを備え、該センサの出力に応じて少なくともスロットル開度とブレーキを制御し、安全な車間距離を保持する手段を備えた、先行車両に自動追従する渋滞追従制御装置において、先行車両の速度を検出する手段を備え、先行車両の速度が所定の制御開始速度以下であった場合、自動的に渋滞追従制御を開始させる手段を備えた渋滞追従制御装置。
