再充電可能な正極とセパレータを介してリチウムの吸蔵・放出が可能な炭素材を主成分とする負極の極板群を備え、非水電解液を用いる非水電解液二次電池において、負極炭素材が鱗片状黒鉛もしくは鱗片状黒鉛の表面に黒鉛よりも結晶化度が低い炭素材を被覆しているものからなり、負極はそれらの鱗片状黒鉛粒子の炭素の六角平面が、対向している正極に対して垂直もしくは垂直から±45度の角度以内で粒子配向している非水電解液二次電池。
