抄録/ポイント： 2009年7月に南マリアナトラフ内の3つの熱水火道域(Snail,Archean,Pika)に対して,うらしま自立型水中探査機(AUV)を用いた4回の潜航を実施し,AUVに搭載したドップラー流速分布計(ADCP)によってエコー強度(EI)を測定した。ADCPデータから火道域を覆うEIの3D構造が明らかになり,Pika及びArchean火道を覆う高いEI異常が明瞭に認められた。高いEI異常の特性について慎重に検討し,単一地点での混濁度センサーで同時に観測された混濁度との関係を調べた。高いEI異常は幾つかの地点でのプリュームの厚さを示している(Pikaサイトで厚さ230m,Archeanで140m,Snailで160m)ことは確からしく,混濁度とEIの両者は信号として機能する。観測結果はまた,局所的平均流による高異常値の水の南西方向への長期に及ぶ移流をも説明づけている。(翻訳著者抄録)
