世界の造山帯は衝突型と太平洋型の2つにわけられる。本稿では両者の構成要素と大構造の検討に基づいて太平洋型造山運動の重要性を強調し,そのプロセスや問題点,関連する付加体や花崗岩,変成作用等に関するモデルの紹介と検討を行った。特に構造侵食についてその果たす役割と重要性について論じ,太平洋型造山運動の新概念についてとりまとめた。
