Purpose of establishment:
Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology(TUAT) is striving to achieve a society which enables sustainable
development based on the legacy of the 20th century, and hold the fundamental principles of contributing to the
advancement of science and technology in harmony with society and the natural environment. Through education and
research based on free ideas in agriculture, engineering and their integrated fields, TUAT also aims at producing human
resources that will execute these principles. In short, TUAT adheres to the motto “MORE SENSE: Mission Oriented
Research and Education giving Synergy in Endeavors toward a Sustainable Earth”, and endeavors to resolve the issues
that mankind faces in the 21st century.

Education
Developing personnel rich in human qualities, with high intelligence, a broad international perspective and high ethics,
through emphasis on the development to skills - pioneering skills for knowledge, exploring skills for issues and problem-
solving skills - and not limiting the impartation of knowledge to a one-way source.

Research
Promoting the creation of knowledge from fundamental research aimed at the search for truth to “missionoriented”
knowledge directly connected to technological advances in order to fulfill a responsibility toward society as a center for the
transmission of scientific and technological information.

Social contribution
Returning the fruits of education and research to society through making use of the university’s human and material
resources on the development of an academic culture and the formation of a foundation in science education in local
communities and promoting ties and exchanges with NGOs, NPOs, research institutions and industry.

Operation
Constantly improving the organization and functions in parallel with our efforts to be an open-minded university with
appropriate planning and goals aimed at enhancing its activities and organization.
