Purpose of establishment:
The aim of the department of dentistry is to foster dentists
who can work not only in the local community but also in
international society by providing high sense of ethics,
profound insight into the human being, professional knowledge,
and skills based on the spirit of foundation of the university.

To attain this goal, the faculty of dentistry introduced
a six-year consistent education system, comprising of
foundation stage, professional education, and clinical

In the foundation stage, students are required to learn a
wide knowledge and culture as a dentist to obtain wide
perspective and fixed viewpoint in order to cope with more
complex society. Examples are a basic seminar with a style
of interactive lecture and hospital visit as part of early
exposure. The faculty aims to improve the basic scholastic
ability required to learn dentistry and to foster rich

In the professional education stage, curriculum is designed
to provide linkage between the basic dentistry subjects and
clinical dentistry subjects. The final aim is to provide the
dentistry education with close linkage with the clinical
dentistry and whole body medicine. The achievement level of
each student shall be objectively evaluated through Common
Test, which shall be introduced in full scale from 2005.

In the clinical educatiton stage, students learn the skills
of informed consent through actually taking part in medical
examination. Students are allowed to take part in the actual
medical examination to learn basic elements, such as
knowledge, way of thinking, skills and attitude, and
importance of teamwork with other medical staff. Through such
experience, students also improve the skills of safety control
and risk management and acquire knowledge to prevent medical
accidents and appropriate infection control.
